  • What is the Girls Academy (GA)?

The Girls Academy is the leading youth development platform for the best female soccer players in the United States. They’re the only national youth soccer platform that represents the collective vision of member clubs and actively engages the voice of the players to take real ownership of the league. They embrace the desire of club members and players to maintain an unrivaled standard of excellence in coaching, competition, and regional and national showcase events throughout the year.

They’re committed to cultivating an environment that empowers each player to reach their best potential as an exceptional athlete and human being by celebrating the player’s journey with a lifelong love of the game through competition, showcases, and camaraderie.

The Girls Academy has 94 member clubs with teams in the U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, and U19 age groups. The member clubs are split into ten conferences that make up the national footprint. League play begins in August and culminates with the playoffs and national finals events in June and July. Additionally, qualifying teams compete in a separate, aspirational platform created to add additional quality competition for the most competitive clubs in the GA.

  • What does Sporting City Event Status mean?

As an Event Status club of the Girls Academy, Sporting City U13 (2012) & U14 (2011) teams will participate in the East and West Regional events, and the U15 (2010) to U19 (2006) teams will participate in the Winter and Spring Showcases. These showcases attract over 300+ college coaches from across the country and US Soccer Women’s Youth National Team coaches and scouts.

  • When are the GA events and showcases?

The exact locations and dates have not yet been released but we anticipate the timeframe of the events and showcases will be similar to the 2023-2024 season.

Click here to view the 2023-2024 events and showcases schedule.

  • Can GA players compete for their high school teams?

Yes, they can compete on their high school teams. The U15 (2010) to U19 (2006) teams will compete in the Winter Showcase, in late November/early December. They will not be eligible to compete in the Spring Showcase due to high school association rules.

However, we intend to take a collection of 8th graders born in 2010 to the Spring Showcase.

In addition, if we have a team(s) interested in playing in showcase events instead of playing for their high school teams, they will compete in the Girls Academy Spring Showcase as one of their events.

  • What is the vision for the Girls Academy next season?

We will use the upcoming year to prepare our teams on the field to compete at the Girls Academy level while building the program structure to put ourselves in a position to achieve our main objective of applying for full membership in 2025.

Sporting City is one of a very few clubs across the country to receive Girls Academy Event Status which demonstrates the high level of interest the league has for Sporting City.

  • In addition to the GA events and showcases, what other leagues and tournaments will the teams be participating in?

We will be scheduling matches against other Girls Academy, ECNL, and ECRL clubs. We will explore different league options and communicate our plan in the near future.

The teams will compete in high-level tournaments for additional competitive matches.

We will prioritize college showcase events for our high school age teams.

We will prioritize college showcase events for our high school age teams. All teams will compete in high-level tournaments for additional competitive matches.

We will also explore other league options based on the players on the roster that competed in another league the previous year.

  • How will GA teams be formed?

All GA teams will be created from a pool of players that attend tryouts.  The tryout schedule with dates, times, and location will be released soon.

The U13 (2012) and U14 (2011) teams will have a 10-month season, August through May.  The U15 (2010) to U17 (2008) teams will have a 7-month season, August through February.

  • How many days a week with the GA teams train?

The teams will train a minimum of three (3) times a week during the core fall (August-November) and spring (February-May) seasons.  Th teams will train a minimum of two (2) times a week during the winter months (December-January).

To accommodate players from across the Kansas City metro and beyond, training sessions during the week will start at 5:30pm or later.

  • Where will the GA team train?

They will primarily train at Compass Minerals Sporting Fields.

    Compass Minerals Sporting Fields

    1500 N 90th Street

    Kansas City, Kansas

Compass Minerals Sporting Fields is conveniently located of Hwy 435 and 70 to accomodate players coming from different areas to the KC metro.

CMSF will offer each team at least half a field for training and has the necessary goals and equipment to give the coaches the ability to train on all areas of the game.

The teams will also have access to Swope Soccer Village and Central Bank Sporting Fields.

  • What is the cost to play on a GA team?

We will announce the fees in early to mid-May.

  • Will the club offer financial assistance?

Sporting City will offer financial assistance to players from families that demonstrate a clear financial need. To learn more about our financial assistance process, click here.

  • Who will be coaching the GA teams?

We will be announcing the coaching staff no later than the week of May 19th.

  • Will the goalkeepers have specialized training sessions?

Yes, the intent is to have a goalkeeper coach to work with the goalkeepers.  The goalkeeper training sessions will take place at Compass Minerals Sporting Fields in conjunction with team training.

  • What additional coaching and resources will the GA players receive?

The GA teams will benefit from the resources offered by Sporting KC.  The players will receive nutrition guidance from the club's nutritionist and have the opportunity to learn how to deal with mental aspects of the game, and off-field challenges a player has to manage from our mental performance coach.

We intend to include a sports performance component in the program curriculum to support the girls with injury prevention and improve their overall speed, agility, and quickness to meet the demands of the game.

  • What programming will be offered to my 2010 player in 8th grade during the spring season

We can’t provide an accurate answer until we know how many 8th graders are selected for the 2010 team during tryouts.  However, we will make sure that these players are put in the best environment for them to continue their development during the spring months.

The plan is for the 2010 team, with 8th graders and any players that choose to stay with the team instead of playing high school soccer, to compete in the GA Spring Showcase.  To fill the remaining roster spots, the intent is to add top level players from clubs within the Sporting KC network.

If we have a large number of 8th graders on the team, they will compete in the spring Heartland Soccer League, and we would supplement the roster with 2011 GA players and top players from our region teams.  They will continue to practice as a team during the week.  In addition, we would explore playing in a high-level regional tournament and/or schedule friendly matches against local and regional GA teams.

If we have a small number of 8th graders on the team, we will have those players train with the U14 (2011) team during the week.  For competition, these players could potentially combine with the top Sporting City region players to create a team and compete in the spring Heartland Soccer League.

  • Will I have to buy new uniforms?

Yes, for the 2024-2025 season GA players will be required to purchase new uniforms.  The required uniform package will include two game jerseys, two game shorts, two game socks, practice jersey, practice shorts, practice socks and a warmup top and pants.

Sporting City region players selected for a GA team will not be required to purchase all new uniform items because some of the items are identical to the current uniforms.

The intended required uniform package price for a new player to the club will be $200 and a returning Sporting City player required uniform package will be $110.

The goalkeeper uniform package will be $250 which will include two game jersey, two game shorts, two game socks, practice jersey, practice shorts, practice socks and a warmup top and pants.

For the 2025-2026, all Sporting City teams will enter a new two-year buy cycle and regardless of program, all teams will wear the same uniforms.

We will announce the tryout schedule soon.

  • Will Sporting City have Pre-GA (2013) teams?

Yes, the intent is for each Sporting City region (West/North/East) to have a U12 (2013) Pre-GA team in preparation for the following Girls Academy season.  The tryouts for U12 (2013) Pre-GA teams will take place at each Sporting City region (East/North/West) tryout location.

In addition to competing in the Heartland Soccer League and playing in high-level events, the intent is for these teams to compete in the newly formed U12G Sporting Development League (SDL) which will feature the SKC affiliate clubs that compete in GA, ECNL and ECRL. We will be announcing this league soon, but to learn more about the boys SDL, click here.

These teams will also take part in additional group training sessions throughout the year that will consist of the players from each of the Sporting City region teams.
