Sporting City Way

Sporting City Way

Sporting City represents and embodies Sporting Kansas City's four core values – Teamwork, Winning Mentality, Work Ethic and Intelligence.

Sporting City is a place where people are more than just players, coaches, parents, associates or fans. We are a family – the Sporting City family. We believe in being united, a place where people say, "We are Sporting City". A place where we learn and grow through the love of soccer.

Welcome to the club. Welcome to Sporting City!

Sporting City Values

The Values We Train & Promote

At Sporting City, we want to create individual learning through positive experiences for every child. The game's object is to score more goals than the opponent and prevent them from scoring them.

To achieve this, we need to develop players who can find creative problem solvers in the four pillars of the game – Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychological.

Our values are based around our name which defines us, our identity, and our values, we are SPORTING:

Self-Learners - Thinks creatively and independently

Problem Solvers - Discovers their own solution to solve game problems

Ownership - Takes responsibility and accountability for their learning

Respectful - Demonstrates active listening and respect towards all teammates, opponents, parents, and referees

Team First - Puts your teammates and coaches first

Intelligence - Game intelligence to play with instinct, disguise, and deception

Nurturing - Promotes a positive attitude and environment towards learning

Growth Mindset - Open to challenge, seeks opportunities to learn

Player Development Philosophy

Player development is at the heart of everything we do. Our philosophy is to work with each player to identify their individual strengths and help them turn those strengths into super strengths. We believe that every player has unique talents and skills, and we are committed to nurturing and developing those abilities.

At Sporting City, we understand that the team is a crucial vessel that supports individual growth and development. We focus on creating a positive team environment where players can thrive and reach their full potential. We believe that when players work together towards a common goal, they learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership.

Our goal is to develop intelligent players who can create and manipulate time and space on the field. We design our training sessions to be relative to the age and stage of each player, and we focus on providing situations that represent the challenges they will face in real games. By doing so, we help our players develop the necessary skills and decision-making abilities that will make them successful on and off the field.

At Sporting City, we believe that kids need to be lifelong learners, and we embrace this philosophy throughout our training sessions and interactions with players. We encourage our players to ask questions, seek answers, and challenge themselves to continually improve.

Our coaches are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment where players are encouraged to take risks and learn from their mistakes. We believe that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and we use them as opportunities to teach and guide our players towards greater success.

Our commitment to lifelong learning extends beyond the field. We encourage our players to apply the skills they learn on the field to all aspects of their lives, helping them become well-rounded individuals capable of achieving success both on and off the field. At Sporting City, we are proud to help develop the next generation of lifelong learners and successful individuals.

Coaching Philosophy

Sporting City coaches will be supported, mentored, and trained under the direction of each clubs Director of Coaching.

Our coaching methods are based on not just the "What" but also considering the "Who", "Why" and the "How" to coach. Who is the player in front of us? What are their needs? How can we support and challenge the individual player and team?

Our Sporting City coaches will design training environments around our 4-C Approach:

Choices – create environments that are realistic to the game, problems to solve

Competition – use competition to elevate the level of learning & enjoyment

Challenge – find ways to set challenges, individually and/or collectively

Clarity – everything we do is relevant to the individual player ‘the why’
