Sporting City joins Girls Academy

As Event Status Club for 2024-2025 season

Sporting City has been granted Event Status with the Girls Academy League for the 2024-2025 season. As an Event Status club of the Girls Academy, Sporting City U13 (2012) & U14 (2011) teams will participate in the East and West Regional events, and the U15 (2010) to U19 (2006) teams will participate in the Winter and Spring Showcases. These showcases attract over 300+ college coaches from across the country and US Soccer Women’s Youth National Team coaches and scouts.

“It’s an honor to be joining the Girls Academy as an Event Status club for the upcoming season,” said Dan Popik, Sporting KC Vice President, Youth Sports Properties. “The Girls Academy events and showcases will provide our girls players with the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country.”

The Girls Academy is the leading youth development platform for the best female soccer players in the United States. It’s the only national youth soccer platform that represents the collective vision of member clubs and actively engages the voice of the players to take real ownership of the league. The Girls Academy embraces the desire of club members and players to maintain an unrivaled standard of excellence in coaching, competition, and regional and national showcase events throughout the year.

“The club will use the upcoming year to prepare our teams on the field to compete at the Girls Academy level while building the program structure to put ourselves in a position to achieve our main objective of applying for full membership in 2025,” said Popik.

Sporting City consists of three regions across the Kansas City metro: Sporting City West, Sporting City North and Sporting City East. In total, the club is home to 1,400 competitive boys and girls players. The club also serves over 3,500 recreation boys and girls players each season from Pre-K to 4th Grade in the Sporting Recreation Leagues that are hosted at Central Bank Sporting Complex (CBSC), Compass Minerals Sporting Fields (CMSF), and Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex (GOSC). The club’s home practice complexes are Sporting Kansas City’s three managed world-class youth soccer facilities, CBSC, CMSF and Swope Soccer Village (SSV).

To begin the process of identifying players to participate on the Girls Academy teams, we will be hosting multiple ID Sessions for the 2012, 2011, 2010 age groups. Click here to learn more and to register for our ID Sessions.
